8th Grade History

May 18th - May 29th

Remember that I will be having office hours on Wednesdays from 1:00 pm- 2:00pm. We will meet through zoom and a link is posted on google classroom. Get on just to say hello and connect, or get on if you have any questions about any of the work. The last two weeks we played a game. It was fun to be able to interact with you guys. If you cannot get on google classroom, but still want to join zoom, email me and I will email you the link. Be sure your name is attached to the zoom and not a funny user name (you won't be accepted in for security reasons if I don't know it is you). You can always email me if need be at Kkorte@Soulsbyvilleschool.Com if you have any questions or just want to chat. I check it multiple times a day!

It is important that we stay active and keep moving, even if we are at home. If we were at school, we would be running the mile and doing pacers. Please try to keep those up so that you will be ready for PE next year.  A good App to use, if you have a smart phone, for running is MapMyRun. This App keeps track of your distance and time. You can also try to run pacers by marking out the same distance we run.  Here is the link to the pacers that we used in class: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j5Wr0Plaw4 .Try to keep yourself as active as possible in someway!

The Last two weeks I gave you maps to study. These next two weeks you are going to be challenging yourself to see if you remember where those places are. I have prepared several quizzes for you to label. The quizzes will also be on google classroom.I will give you two copies of each quiz so that you can quiz yourself multiple times if you need it.  Give it your best shot!

8th Grade Math

May 18th - May 29th

I am going a completely different route for these last two weeks. I thought it would be fun to create a brochure to give to the next year’s class of 8th graders. Your task these last two weeks is to create a tri-fold brochure that explains what 8th grade will be like for next year’s 8th graders. You can include things from before and during distance learning and things from all of your classes. I have attached a template but you can change the headings of sections if you want by using the blank piece of paper included in this packet. You can cut out pictures from magazines, or print pictures, or you can draw pictures in the picture spots (you could also include more text if you want). I also will post a digital copy on google classroom if you’d like to do a digital brochure. The brochure can have sections such as:

  • Things you will learn about: (from any class)
  • Best Project (from any class)
  • Favorite Memory
  • My advice for a successful year is:
  • What you should know about (your teachers):
  • Always remember to:

Remember, the audience is the next year’s 8th graders. Be thoughtful, creative, and tailor it to your memories. Keep it clean and positive! You can turn this in by taking a picture and emailing it to me, create the digital brochure and turn it in on google classroom, or turn it in to the office.

Also, I am available for office hours on Zoom on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 3pm each week. The link to join is on my google classroom. I am available to answer any questions you have during that time. You can also join just to say hi! I miss you guys and gals so much!

I am super bummed that the year has to end this way. I will miss you all and wish you all the best in high school.

If you have any questions, please email me.

March 30th - April 10th

Soulsbyville school has decided to do one grade level packet. Those in Mr. Higgins’ class will be doing the same lessons as Mrs. Korte’s class. These are all the completed notes that you have been studying in Mrs. Korte’s class. Please study and review them. I have also included all the video links that went with the amendment pages if you feel like watching them. Mr. Higgins class has finished the Constitution. This should be a review for you, but you will still need to study it in case there are things you did not know. You will have lessons based from these notes in the coming weeks. I will be posting these to Google Classroom. There will be a new Google Classroom titled “8th Grade History for at Home Learning”. EVERYONE (Mr. Higgins and Mrs. Korte’s classes) in 8th grade needs to join. The class code is ve4e2f2. Again, ALL 8th graders need to join this to get assignments, homework, etc. There will always be a hard copy available if you do not have internet access available in the office.Hello Soulsbyville Students! I know these are unusual times and circumstances in the way that you will be learning for the next few weeks. I really miss being in class with all of you!

8TH Grade History Study Pack Week #1

8th Grade Math

April 14th-May 1st

Dear students and parents of 8th Graders in Mrs. Huff’s and Mrs. Korte’s Math classes,

Mrs. Korte and I have collaborated and she has decided to focus on History/PE and I will be taking over all the 8th grade math classes. Mrs. Korte will still be included on the work and you can still go to her for questions.

I have included a rough schedule of the topics to be covered in the next packet available for distribution from the office starting Tuesday April 14 and Wednesday April 15 from 11am to 1pm. I have shortened the amount of work required per week so that it may be more manageable.

The week of April 14 - 17 is again, review of topics that have been covered this year. I am doing this to get students used to using the online textbook resources with material they are familiar with. Students have two options for this week (1) complete the work on the paper packet which will be available from the office, on the school website, or on my google classroom. OR (2) complete the work online through our textbook workbook website, my.hrw.com. I will be assigning work through that platform. Students do not need to do both, it will be redundant.

The weeks of April 20 - 24 and April 27-May 1 will also be work directly from our math textbook. Again, students can do the paper packet from the office, or do the online assigned resources on the my.hrw.com website.

Math Textbook Online Resource

There are a few exceptions to this rule and I will be emailing those individuals their usernames and passwords. If you are having trouble logging in, please email me.

You must have your username and password prior to logging in. Contact your teacher if you have questions about your username and password.

1.Open Holt McDougal Online by navigating to the following URL: http://my.hrw.com.

The Welcome to Holt McDougal Online page appears.

2.Type your Username and Password.

3.Click Log In.

4.The Dashboard or My Subscriptions page appears, depending on the setup of your Holt McDougal Online.

Logging in for the First Time

When you log in for the first time, you must answer three identification questions. This is to assist you if you ever lose your password. If this set of questions asks for your email address, do NOT use your school email address because our school email addresses cannot accept email from outside sources, sources that are outside the @soulsbyvilleschool.com platform. You must also read and accept Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s Privacy Policy for K—12 Learning Platforms and Terms of Use for K-12 Learning Platforms.

Office Hours

My plan right now is to provide office hours when students can join a zoom call with me to ask questions if they are having trouble with the work. I will be posting the zoom link on google classroom in the morning for the office hours I will be holding that day. The hours that I will be online to answer math questions are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm to 3pm. I may add in a Wednesday morning time as well depending on the need.

If a student does not have online access, they can complete the paper packet. If a student has online access, they should be checking their school email daily and logging into google classroom daily to access the materials. I will be posting videos daily that go along with the lessons.

To reiterate, either complete the work on the paper packet, or the online work, not both.

If you have any questions, please email me.

Please stay safe and healthy.

Mrs. Huff

8th Grade Math Packet

March 30th - April 10th

Hi students and families. I have put together some math review practice for this week. These are all skills that I have previously taught this year. The 1st page is mostly just notes and examples. Students can reference their math journals, and I will be posting links to some Youtube - educational videos that accompany the daily work on my Google Classroom. Students can login to classroom.google.com and use their school email and password. Most students should already be signed up, but if you need to join one of my classes, my join in code is: u47f3ap

I will also have an answer key available for the packets so you can check your work. Please email me if you have any questions or would like a pdf of the answer key.
